Lochinvar Introduces Loch-SPEC Sizing Program available on CD-ROM

by Lochinvar

Lochinvar® Corporation recently announced the introduction of its new version of the Loch-SPEC Sizing Program available on CD-ROM. This program generates a sizing recommendation for commercial water heaters based on factors specified by the user.

Loch-SPEC on CD-ROM enables our customers to access instant sizing recommendations,” said Jeff Vallett, Lochinvar’s vice president of marketing and sales. Users have the option of specifying an application in which water heaters will be selected, such as an apartment complex, or developing a recommendation without specifying a particular application. The program is flexible enough to generate a sizing recommendation based on answers to pre-determined application sensitive factors or based on more complex formulas driven by user determined factors.

Users also have the option of choosing two different modes for recommendations: the “quick size mode” or the “formula mode.” The quick size mode provides a recommendation after completing a few simple questions, where as the formula mode allows the user to define application factors in much greater detail and actually see the formulas used to arrive at the sizing recommendation.

“Its strength is in its flexibility and detail,” explained Jerry Moore, Lochinvar’s manager of technical services. “Users can easily receive comprehensive recommendations through a process that best fits their needs – a quick short questionnaire or a more detailed formula driven recommendation.”

Through both quick size and formula modes, users can adjust multiple factors that affect the recommendation. Ground water temperature, altitude, the number of heaters required, the percentage of load each heater can handle, and the number of storage tanks required are just a few of the factors that can be manipulated to determine the best recommendation.
Loch-SPEC also allows the user to scale the recommendation up or down, thus allowing alterations in the heater selection to match the physical space available for a specific application. Additionally, Loch-SPEC provides a fuel cost savings analysis based on the heater selection and the demand factors entered by the user. Engineers and specifiers may find this tool useful to justify a sizing decision.
