New Lochinvar Armor® Models Win Bronze In Product of the Year Awards
9/29/2010
by Lochinvar Marketing Department

In 2009, Lochinvar expanded upon its highly successful ARMOR Water Heater line to include three larger models with inputs of 600,000, 700,000 and 800,000 Btu/hr. These new models, which offer the same proven design and advanced technology the line is known for, have earned ARMOR a spot among the three winners in the plumbing category in the Consulting-Specifying Engineer 2010 Product of the Year Awards.

Equipped with the most advanced features available, including thermal efficiencies up to 98 percent, a stainless steel heat exchanger, 5:1 modulating turndown and the re-engineered SMART SYSTEM™ operating control, the new ARMOR models are considered to be top-of-the-line by the program's board of judges and subscribers to the magazine. The three new models are ideal for larger commercial applications and keep operating costs to an absolute minimum.

With its unique design, ARMOR protects against the harmful effects of lime scale buildup, which can cause a traditional heater to fail in as little as two to five years and substantially increase operating costs. Since ARMOR heats the water and then deposits it in an unfired storage tank, lime scale buildup does not impair the heat transfer efficiency.

In addition, the SMART SYSTEM control, which includes a built-in cascading sequencer for installations using up to eight water heaters, is proven to be highly successful for maximizing hot water delivery. As with the smaller sizes, the new ARMOR models can be vented using inexpensive PVC or CPVC pipe and permits direct-vent distances up to 100-feet - more for both combustion air and vent runs. The line also includes the original models offering 150,000, 199,000, 285,000, 399,000 and 500,000 Btu/hr inputs.

After being selected as a finalist by a panel of judges comprised of professional engineers who regularly design and specify HVAC, electrical, fire protection, and plumbing systems, readers had the opportunity to cast their vote for the sixth annual awards. The magazine has a readership of more than 46,000 mechanical, electrical, and plumbing engineers, who selected ARMOR as the recipient of the bronze medal for all plumbing products.
